Little Way Home Educators (LWHE) is a group of families South of Boston who come together for spiritual, educational and social experiences. We coordinate activities and offer support to one another in an effort to help home-educating families to discern their gifts and talents and share them with the world. We also help one another to network with other local, state and national groups in order to pursue interests and explore options outside of those offered by LWHE.

Above all, Little Way Home Educators strive to support and encourage one another in living our vocations in a welcoming, member-driven community.

Activities and Events

Little Way Home Educators members seek to support and encourage Catholic home educating families that live South of Boston while also building friendships among local children and their parents. Since friendships often develop over time, through common interests and shared experiences, members are encouraged to attend group activities and events regularly, as well as to invite one another to join in local activities organized by other groups.
Members often share about local events and activities sponsored by others within our Facebook* group.  Members are also encouraged to create and post
LWHE Activities and Events for members within our Facebook group, for, as a member-driven group, we are only as active as our members make us.

To date, LWHE member activities and events have included a variety of initiatives to meet the educational, social, and spiritual needs of parents and children, which have been dependant upon the willingness of members to use their gifts to serve the group.   Some of these have been:

  • Faith-Based Initiatives and Events: Members have gotten together for Holy Day and Saint Day Celebrations, Masses, Service Opportunities, Adoration, Works of Mercy, etc.  If the Spirit is leading YOU to revive or initiate such gatherings, please do!

  • Field Trips and Outings: Many LWHE members believe in experiential learning and, thus, have enjoyed the opportunity to participate in Field Trips and Outings together. Through organized field trips, we have enjoyed discounted admission to a variety of exciting area venues and events. We have also met at show-and-go outings which provide us with opportunities to enjoy free (or very low-cost) experiences together at established local events and venues.  We welcome any LWHE member to organize field trips and outings for our group!

  • Mini Co-ops/Co-ops/Clubs/Learning Groups: Based on interests, members have explored a variety of topics and themes during member-driven co-op classes, clubs, and learning groups which have been offered for varying lengths of time throughout the year.  Currently, LWHE hosts a six-week indoor co-op in the fall and in the spring and has a home-based Geography club. In the past, there have been other home-based Geography Club groups, a child-led Duct Tape Battle Club for boys and corollary Creative Girls club, a monthly Works of Mercy club, a monthly Adoration club, and an Outdoor Mini Co-op.  The future will bring whatever YOU make happen.

  • Parent Support Groups: For some time, some members gathered once a month so parents could get together to chat and network, in general, as well as about specific topics. This initiative has been on hold, but would be welcome to return.  So, if you have requests for a Parent Support Group topics or would like to host one, let us know!  Also, some members have enjoyed a Book Club in the past, which is another idea to get going again.

Future activities and events depend largely on each member’s interests and initiative. Any child or adult within Little Way Home Educators that has an idea is encouraged to share it and, if possible, to make it happen. It is only through the commitment, time and talent of our membership that LWHE maintains itself as a vibrant, growing community of Catholic, home-educating, South of Boston families.

* We do not wish to exclude those who are not on Facebook, however, after trying emails and another forum, discovered our membership was most active communicating on Facebook.  That said, if you wish to be involved in LWHE, but are not on Facebook, just leave a message on this website and someone will get in touch with you.
